Iaido
Classes available on Mondays
The Iai-do studied here is Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu under the auspices of the UK based Eikoku Roshukai. Iai-do is practised as a series of movements or kata. Each kata begins with the individual calmly sitting or standing with their sword sheathed. Then one or more perceived assailants attack the individual. That individual must draw his or her sword and perform a cut to defend themselves. Once the perceived assailants have been deterred, the sword is cleaned and resheathed.
In the midst of all this action and perceived conflict, the iai-do practitioner must retain the calm state of mind they had while they were sitting or standing.
